"Life for a Child"- A Program of the International Diabetes Federation

"For any child with diabetes, having access to insulin, a life-saving and life-sustaining medication, should be a right not a privilege," said Dr. Martin Silink, President of the International Diabetes Federation. "The discovery of insulin 89 years ago was hailed as a miracle. Yet today many children with diabetes in the developing world still face death because they cannot access or afford this miracle drug.”

No Child Should Die of Diabetes
No child should die of DiabetesThe International Diabetes Federation Life for a Child Program seeks to give children and youth with diabetes in developing countries the best possible chance at a normal and healthy life. These children need insulin, quality medical care, other medical supplies, and diabetes education. Currently, the grim reality for many of these children is a quick death or survival with poor quality of life, as care is either not available or not affordable. Serious complications can develop at a young age, and those who survive frequently drop out of school, have difficulty getting a job or finding a marriage partner, and cannot support themselves as adults.

"Life for a Child" is now assisting over 4,000 children in 25+ countries (see map). Children’s diabetes services in each of these countries are provided with targeted support so they can provide the best possible care, given local circumstances. This includes provision of insulin, syringes, blood glucose testing supplies, HbA1c testing, education and training, depending on needs. The centers provide thorough clinical and financial trail feedback.

HOPE worldwide is a key partner in the Life for a Child program. The program is managed from Sydney, Australia by Dr. Graham Ogle of HOPE worldwide - Australia. HOPE worldwide also collects funds in the U.S. and administers the program in three countries.

Donations can either be given as a regular contribution or as a one time donation. A Dollar a Day covers a child's care for a day - (you can give this as $30 per month or $92 per quarter or $365 per year). Donations are tax-exempt in the USA (if you are donating from outside the USA, please contact the e-mail below).
