The Tampa Bay Chapter had an amazing turn out! In observance of the newly established September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, they kicked off their weekend on Friday night with a Tribute and Prayer Night open to the community at the local Burnett Middle School. Joining them for the community event, the Chapter had fire trucks, firemen, rescue personnel come, police and military present for the Friday night tribute. The Sheriff showed his support as well! The DFW Chapter hosted a volunteer training event called – “Ready When The Time Comes.” For this Chapter, it is important to them to be ready to assist members of their community at a moment’s notice when disaster strikes. Their Chapter has established a partnership with the American Red Cross on a local level. Volunteers attended a training/orientation session and committed to being available to serve during a disaster for at least one day per year. On Sept 12th, the Red Cross offered Mass Shelter and orientation training. This was an eight hour training to qualify volunteers to serve in shelters during disaster events. There were 22 trained during this one session. More sessions will be offered for this is important service to our community in times of disaster.
