Outdoor Reading Program
A group of secondary students from Bendeemer Secondary Singapore crossed the Causeway all the way to Sentul in the name of community work. The slum kids from HOPE worldwide had the privilege to learn and interact with them during this outdoor reading program on November 14. HOPE worldwide would like to thank all the teachers and students for their dedication and support. Not only that, we are totally grateful to KL Pac for hosting us and giving us a special location when it rains.

A Year in Review

Phang Hui Lee and Tze Hoay were both 7 years old when they were first met by us. They were struggling to read but today, they are able to recite a story in front of an audience thanks to our Reading Program. Patricia, now 16, was about to give up education 4 years ago just to earn money to feed her other siblings and mother due to poverty. They were surviving on left over rice mixed with soya sauce at best. Looking back, all these children have their dreams realized because you cared!

HOPE worldwide MalaysiaHOPE worldwide Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, (Persatuan Kebajikan HOPE worldwide Kuala Lumpur) is proud of our history of partnerships with corporate bodies, government agencies and individuals alike. Together, we are a community in service to the most vulnerable urban poor and needy people in Malaysia, working on a one-on-one, heart-to-heart basis and letting them know they are not forgotten. HOPE worldwide Kuala Lumpur is grateful to share our endeavors in Bringing HOPE and Changing LIVES in yet another busy year of 2007. 2007 is also the year where we established our Activity Learning Program for children from low-income families. Volunteers contributed time and energy to bring hope to these children by teaching them on weekends. This program has further complemented our existing Health Program (with 2 Free Clinics), Food Distribution Program and School Sponsorship Program. For this year of 2008, we are already embarking on a new program, namely Reading Program, to continue nurturing these children to their best of their abilities.

Every night, underprivileged families and children pray for tomorrow to be a better day for them. As a first step, we encourage you to continue joining us to help answer those prayers. Your contribution to this cause is greatly appreciated and may you reap one hundredfold of the goodness that you sow. Thank you for taking part in Bringing HOPE and Changing LIVES!

Mrs.Chandra's Story
HOPE worldwide MalaysiaMrs. Chandra came to Sentul slum in 2003. She had to run away with her 4 children, from her husband who has been a drunkard who was constantly being abusive. When they arrived, they had nothing with them, not even shelter or food. She had to go around begging for food, and life was tough for her and children. There are days where she could not even afford to have a meal a day. Many days she will go without any food and would sacrifice her portion of food for the sake of her children.

Mrs. Chandra suffers from asthma and could not find a work due to her health problem. HOPE worldwide has adopted this family and provides free medication and food for the family. HOPE worldwide also sponsored school uniform for her children with on one condition that the children would do well in school. Before that she could not even think of sending her children to school, as she could not afford the school fees or uniforms required. Today all her children are going to school and are doing well in their studies. Her eldest daughter came up top 12 in her class last year and is determined to study even harder. Mrs Chandra is currently getting her regular asthma medication from the Free Clinic.
