What do you usually do on Boxing Day?
Most of us make it a day of rest after all the Christmas parties. We sleep in, see what gifts we missed under the tree, plan our New Year's eve program...
Sixty-eight volunteers from the New Territories Campus Sector of the Hong Kong Church of Christ chose to make it a day of service on Boxing Day 2009. Along with HOPE worldwide, they organized a carnival, "Christmas Everywhere," for the children living in one of Hong Kong's poorest districts. Close to a hundred kids came and enjoyed eight different game booths. The volunteers also gave out 145 presents donated by members of the church, spreading joy and cheer to those who may need a little help enjoying the holidays. The kids had an exciting and happy day. The volunteers had a meaningful day, proving "it is more blessed to give than to receive."
Do you know the Six Pillars of Character?
The HOPE worldwide Character Success Education Program adopts its framework from the largest character education program in America, "Character Counts!" Through its "Six Pillars of Character" and effective teaching strategies, we help children and youth develop sound character. The purpose of this character education program is to instill in our young people a sense of moral responsibility, and guide them to live it out in their daily lives. It is not about blindly obeying a set of rules and regulations, but teaching them to make ethical choices and take responsibility for the choices they make.
The program is not a "panadol" to treat the misbehaviours of today's youth, but one that will help our young people take on the academic, moral, and psychological challenges they face. Program Content
We provide a dynamic after-school program that encourages students to learn and apply the "Six Pillars of Character." Students participate in training groups and learn specific skills. They enjoy athletic, artistic, and outdoor activities. Participating schools receive the "Six Pillars of Character" curriculum, poster, and bookmarks. Participating students receive t-shirts and course notebooks. The Six Pillars of Character:
- Trustworthiness
- Respect
- Responsibility
- Fairness
- Caring
- Citizenship

If you have been a donor in the past, we thank you for your support and your generosity. We also ask you to continue your support.
