Faces of Hope A Young Girl’s Courage to Overcome
 Guisaugon, Philippines: Villagers were interrupted in their daily routines when a mudslide swept boulders as big as houses into the small village. Jann, 17, was working in Manila as a house keeper when the mudslide hit. Only three out of the 300 houses in the village were left uncovered and more than 1,000 people were killed in the mudslide. Jann’s family was no exception. Jann lost all desire to continue her studies and the students she saw in their school uniforms were only a reminder of her younger siblings that had been killed in the mudslide. She wondered who would take care of her now that her only remaining relatives, whom she barely had any connection with, lived far away. HOPE worldwide – Philippines established a temporary relief shelter to function as a safe place for the child survivors of the disaster. Thanks to the love, care and treatment HOPE worldwide – Philippines provided for Jann, she was given the courage and freedom she needed to heal and find hope again.
