HOPE worldwide Afghanistan - Malalai Emergency opens help mother and baby in AfghanistanOn Wednesday, October 15th HOPE worldwide Afghanistan celebrated the opening of the Malalai Maternity Hospital Emergency Department. This was a joyous occasion. HOPE worldwide staff and volunteers gathered for the opening ceremonies along with the Deputy Minister of Health Care Services Provision, the US Military Command Service Office staff and much of the local community.

Very shortly after being established in Afghanistan, HOPE worldwide rebuilt what is now known as the Istiqlal Hospital Maternity Ward in the Karte Seh area. This was the first active maternity ward opened after the fall of the Taliban. Soon afterward HOPE worldwide became involved at Malalai Maternity Hospital. Whether we had funding or not, Malalai was always on our minds and hearts with every donation and volunteer we could provide. Now, we celebrate a wonderful step forward for Afghanistan's mothers and children.

Hopes for the Emergency Department:

  • Minimize the tremendous risks during labor for local mothers in Afghanistan
  • Bring essential supplies to the local hospital
  • Effect change throughout Afghanistan by properly training Afghan doctors
  • Providing new mothers with the education they need to provide for their infants
  • Reduce the maternal and infant mortality rates
