HOPE worldwide Northern Virginia Chapter

The HOPE worldwide Northern Virginia Chapter’s mission is to bring hope to hurting communities throughout the Washington, DC area. Our programs provide opportunities for volunteers to serve in specific ways to meet the needs of children and families in our neighborhoods. Much of our funding and many of our volunteers come from our primary partner, the Northern Virginia Church of Christ (NVCOC). Through the generous hearts of our volunteers, we contribute to community service programs throughout the year.

HOPE worldwide recognized the contributions of the Northern Virginia Chapter with the “New Chapter of the Year Award” in 2010.

The 2011 Season of Service includes the following events:

  • August 7, 2011: Backpack Drive —We partner with Northern Virginia Family Services to collect and distribute school supplies in our Backpack Drive.
  • September 2011 through June 2012: Faith’s Reach — Faith’s Reach is a community based Saturday Academy designed to provide educational and developmental opportunities for youth in our communities. It brings together the talents of volunteers with the academic and social needs of students. We partner with Alexandria City Public Schools, working directly with faculty and staff to provide mentoring, enrichment, and tutoring to students on most Saturdays.
  • November 13, 2011: Thanksgiving Gift Basket Drive —We partner with the Herndon-Reston Charity, FISH (Friendly, Instant, Sympathetic Help) to collect complete food baskets for our Thanksgiving Gift Basket Drive.
  • Christmas Toy Drive — We partner with Northern Virginia Family Services for our annual Christmas Toy Drive. This years’ collection will take place at the Sunday service of the Northern Virginia Church of Christ at Oakton High School (Vienna, VA) on December 11, 2011. We are especially looking for gifts for pre-schoolers (3-5 years) and teenagers (gift cards are awesome).
  • MLK Day — Each year, we team with the American Red Cross to provide volunteers to serve the community on Martin Luther King Day.

One of our main goals is to provide volunteers who have initiative and good ideas with help in carrying out works of service. Please contact us for additional information on any of our programs and to sign up to serve. We have already planned a full calendar of events for 2011. If you would like to suggest an additional special need or project, we will strive to be ready to support you. Click here to read about some of our past projects.
