Participants will have the opportunity to address these issues and engage in a wide variety of service projects all throughout the Chicago-land area. We will be partnering with Habitat for Humanity and building houses for low-income families, volunteering at homeless shelters, working at a food depository and community garden, as well as mentoring at-risk youth in inner-city Chicago.

The Gateway to the Arctic Camp near Talkeetna, Alaska, is a new agricultural youth camp whose mission is to develop the character of Alaska’s youth through education and engagement in sustainable agriculture. Participants will grow in their knowledge of agriculture, sustainable and responsible living, empowering service and effective leadership, all while experiencing an unforgettable summer camp. HYC participants will spend two weeks at the camp. One week will focus on camp construction and maintenance, during which participants will help with various building projects on the camp, such as trail building and maintenance, cabin/outbuilding maintenance and improvement, and more. Power tools may be used in some cases with proper training and supervision. During the other week, participants will assist in the implementation of an agricultural-themed camp. The HYC will teach campers about agriculture and get them involved in the process.

Midsummer is all about planting and cultivating! Participants will teach campers all about the hard work it takes to get food from the ground to the table. The campers will be responsible for keeping roughly an acre of produce healthy and growing for a successful fall harvest. Potatoes, zucchini, squash, pumpkins, sweet corn, lettuce, kale, chard, carrots and more!

If you like the outdoors and are a bit of a “free spirit”, you will love this HYC!

Come spend two weeks in historic, ruggedly beautiful Scotland where your personal impact will be keenly felt in both the physical and spiritual renovation of the nation’s largest city, Glasgow!

Planted firmly with courage and faith in a working-class urban area of two million, the Glasgow church is only 20 disciples, with a huge vision to reach out to the over 100,000 university students in the city and establish a thriving, sustainable student ministry. Come help inspire the church as we share our faith and study the Bible with students at the main international universities in Glasgow. Come help revitalize the city as we work in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the nation, partnering with a local community organization to help transform unused urban space for a local school. We’ll learn construction skills shoulder to shoulder with local volunteers. We’ll be trained in daily, practical Bible classes by Evangelist/Teacher/Missionary Andy Fleming. We’ll spend a weekend exploring the medieval Old City of Edinburgh and hiking along the coast high above the Firth of Forth. We’ll be welcomed into the Scottish disciples’ homes, moved by the unforgettable sound of bagpipes and dancing till we drop at a traditional Gaelic cèilidh. Come spend your strength where you will know you have made a difference: Glasgow HYC 2016!

Stunningly beautiful Budapest, the diamond of European cities, still has a rough underside. Over 25 years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, unemployment and homelessness are rife. Institutions providing shelter to those in need are bleak and underfunded. Whilst vistas might draw tourists and boost the economy, they don’t put meals on the table or a roof over a family’s head. HOPE worldwide Hungary has been supporting places of safety for vulnerable families for nearly 20 years. The Budapest HYC 2016 will add to our support of these institutions by not only cleaning and painting buildings but by infusing color with mural art and fun through kids’ programs in English, leaving behind lasting memories and basic English knowledge. Come and deepen your compassion in stunningly beautiful Budapest.

This program is a repeat of the hugely successful 2015 HYC!

Kenyatta National Hospital is the largest referral hospital in East Africa. HYC 2016 volunteers will serve in this hospital in the pediatric cancer ward. The children appreciate visitors; some of them were abandoned by their relatives due to high cost of medical procedures and the stigma associated with the disease. The volunteers will engage the children in activities including playing games, feeding them, singing with them, teaching and interacting through arts and crafts, reading to the children, putting on puppet shows and sharing gifts. We will consult further with the hospital management and include other activities that will leave the most impact.
