The Impact of God's Love
Bob and Pat Gempel, CEO and Executive Vice President of HOPE worldwide, recently returned from a meeting in Kenya with HOPE worldwide Country Directors. It was an encouraging time for all, but one event in particular made a powerful impact.
After an inspiring worship service in Nairobi, the HOPE worldwide Country Directors visited one of the HOPE worldwide programs that has been in progress for several years. The focus is similar to the work in many countries, namely helping children realize that someone loves them, cares about them and will help them have a hope and a future. The love of the staff there was clearly evident in the responses of the children to the HOPE worldwide staff members.
Bob and Pat were reminded of the scripture in Luke 5:12-13:
"While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, ‘LORD, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing.’ And the man was healed.”
The children seemed to sense the love of Jesus as they gathered to watch performances by their own and sit in the laps of the HOPE worldwide staff from around the world. One girl, about four years old, came to sit in Pat's lap. She reached up to touch Pat’s hair and softly, softly touch her skin. Her smile was as gentle as her soft touch. The love of the Lord and the personal touch of another were shared without words.
Bob and Pat feel privileged to see and feel the touch of those without hope for a better future. Their hearts are filled with gratitude. The HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps and Youth Corps worked at this same Nairobi site in July of this year.
God's love and your sacrificial giving made it possible for God's touch to be felt by many. To Him be the glory.
