HOPE worldwide Founders Receive the
2008 Harry P. Mirabile Award
Penn Liberty Bank Honors the Gempels’ Commitment to the Global Community
On Tuesday, September 23, 2008, Penn Liberty Bank hosted a reception and presentation of the 2008 Harry P. Mirabile Award in honor of Robert and Patricia Gempel, founders of HOPE worldwide, for their lifelong commitment to community service.
Penn Liberty Bank, whose corporate offices are based in Wayne, Pennsylvania and a valued partner of HOPE worldwide, established the Harry P. Mirabile Award to honor spirited individuals committed to serving their communities. In 2006 the Pinnacle Award was renamed the Harry P. Mirabile Award in honor of the late Harry P. Mirabile, Sr. Mr. Mirabile was the first recipient of the award and exemplified the spirit of lifelong commitment to community service.
Under the Gempels’ leadership, HOPE worldwide grew from three programs in three countries to programs in 68 countries on all six inhabited continents. The Gempels brought to the organization over 40 years of corporate and ministry experience and 12 years of graduate training in the sciences, environmental health and business.
Penn Liberty composed this tribute which appeared in the evening’s program: “Robert and Patricia Gempel epitomize selfless, faithful and daring service in the face of odds that would appear insurmountable to most. They never set out, almost 17 years ago, to create a legacy for themselves, but instead to empower the less fortunate to believe they could achieve their own legacy of self-sufficiency and hope. Their own personal ‘seeds of empowerment’ have borne fruit on all six inhabited continents and resulted in HOPE worldwide programs serving over 1 million people.”
We are grateful Penn Liberty’s partnership as we continue working to bring hope that changes lives around the world.
Congratulations to the Gempels and thank you for all you have done!
