Mexico HVC

HVC Mexico (taking place in La Mision, Baja California) will provide the opportunity to combine a service project and bible teaching to an impoverished community in Mexico. Just two hours from San Diego, California is a great mission opportunity to have a lasting impact in caring for the poor among us. Open Arms Daycare was established to keep children out of orphanages and families together. Most children in orphanages have at least one parent who is unable to care for them. The Open Arms founder was one of those children. He was raised in an orphanage, separated from his parents and siblings, just because his family had to work and couldn’t be there for their children. Open Arms helps keep families together.
Open Arms Daycare is a faith-based facility dedicated to keeping children out of orphanages and families together. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct a Vacation Bible School for the children, as well as perform service projects for the center. We have a great opportunity to serve the children and build a foundation of faith to last their lifetime. We will conduct service projects such as cleaning, painting, and general repairs to the facility. We will also encourage and support the people who are serving there on a daily basis. Six years ago Cindy Wilkinson began partnering with this nonprofit day care by bringing a multigenerational group to present Vacation Bible School and serve the day care. It is an opportunity to love children and show them a view of God. This is what Open Arms says about this VBS crew:

“The Church of Christ (International Mission Team), had their annual VBS in La Mision. Every year they put so much thought and love into the kids program that the daycare kiddos are always asking when they are coming back! They are VBS gurus!!! They also bless the families with a beach day, where parents get to play with their kids, eat hot dogs, and dance and sing together. They are such a blessing each and every year, and we love that their relationship has grown with the kids through their consistency.”

Open Arms has a dormitory where the participants can live, cook, and grow together.  There are rooms with bunk beds, shower facilities and a kitchen with a covered patio.  In the evening, there is time to hang out, cook out and share in a devotional.  Relationships are forged as we grow closer to God, the community, and each other. The VBS week concludes with a day at the beach helping the families enjoy a picnic with each other.

There are many options for service projects while in La Mision:

• Open Arms has a room for a medical clinic on site. Medical and Dental professionals could easily serve the community from this location. They have expressed the need for dental services.
• Open Arms is a day care so educators are welcome.
• There are always carpentry, plumbing, and electrical jobs that need doing.
• Cleaning and repairing is an ongoing need.

La Mision HOPEww Volunteer Corps provides the opportunity to experience true religion by literally caring for the least of these brothers and sisters of Jesus. Come with us and change the world one child at a time.
