Hope Worldwide. Bringing Hope. Changing Lives.

Nepal HYC

Nepal boasts of some of the most gorgeous scenery in the whole world. It is the home of Mount Everest and the Himalayas. It is a country with rich culture, warm hospitality, rugged and resilient people.

It is also an extremely poor country, with overwhelming needs. The only real industry is tourism. Most of the young people leave to go and work abroad.

HWW has run a school and vocational training center in Kathmandu for 22 years. In addition, since the April 2015 earthquake, HWW has been engaged in disaster relief.

The Christmas 2017 HWW Volunteer Corps participants will serve at the school and vocational training center, teaching the children and the young people. The school is an elementary school, catering to children from nursery to grade 5. The vocational training center provides computer training, and spoken English classes to teenagers and young adults. The students come from extremely poor families. We also provide a midday meal to the children.

The school is usually in need of repairs, painting, etc, so there is usually a fair amount of physical labour.

The volunteers will also assist in earthquake relief. The specific activities will depend on the progress made by December 2017.

The trip also includes a really amazing three day trek in the Himalayas, as well as a two day retreat with the Kathmandu church to end the Volunteer Corps.

The participants will get to teach at church, spend time with disciples, help strengthen the teens and their families, as well as generally encourage the church, which has about 100 members.

We have run this Corps for the last couple of years, and it is one of our more popular programs.  This will be the fourth edition of this trip. What better way to spend Christmas and new Year serving some of the poorest, yet most courageous people on earth?
