Alaska Youth Corps
(June 7-20)
Gateway to the Arctic (G2A) is a service-oriented agricultural camp in rural Alaska that teaches participants the value of hard work, service to others, and environmental stewardship. Through hands-on agricultural training, participants learn about sustainability, growing and harvesting crops, and caring for the land. Produce grown at the farm is donated to those in need or sold to support programs serving underserved Alaskans.
In addition to agricultural education, G2A provides ongoing mentorship that helps participants develop character and essential life skills, including responsibility, perseverance, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to serving others.
HVC volunteers will help advance this vision through hands-on service at the camp. Since construction began in 2013, volunteers and community partners have contributed more than 50,000 hours toward developing the property, which now includes nine cabins, a multipurpose barn, three residential homes, storage facilities, expansive gardening fields, and a lodge overlooking Mount Denali. During this trip, volunteers will assist with building maintenance, garden care, community engagement, and other projects that support the camp’s continued development.
Through this shared experience, volunteers will contribute to a welcoming environment where people can learn, grow, and serve while experiencing the beauty of rural Alaska. We look forward to welcoming volunteers for a meaningful opportunity to serve and connect with the local community.
