A Bright Future for Vulnerable Children in Côte d'Ivoire

A collaborative effort to empower families through literacy, nutrition, and community support

In a powerful demonstration of partnership and community impact, HOPE worldwide recently visited the Port-Bouët 2 Socio-Educational Center in Yopougon on July 31, 2025. This visit was part of their ongoing Early Childhood Nutrition Development Project (NDPE), a transformative initiative benefiting vulnerable children in Côte d'Ivoire.

The NDPE project, which spans three municipalities—Abobo, Yopougon, and Marcory—aims to improve the nutrition and early learning for children in these areas, offering a lifeline for families facing challenges. The project includes early childhood literacy, essential health services, and a safe, nurturing environment for children from some of the most disadvantaged communities.

During the visit, Mrs. Ouattara, Deputy Director of the Port-Bouët 2 center, emphasized the positive impact of HOPE worldwide’s efforts. "This partnership is a true breath of hope for our little ones, especially after the closure of the Early Childhood Protection Center in 2021," she said. Thanks to this collaboration, 120 children from vulnerable families are now receiving attentive care from a dedicated team of educators and volunteers, marking a critical milestone for the region's young learners.

HOPE worldwide, which has been operating in Côte d'Ivoire for 24 years, continues to be a source of support for the country's most underserved communities. The NDPE project directly benefits over 500 children across the three communities, offering the opportunity to thrive through improved nutrition and access to early learning initiatives. Currently, 240 children are enrolled at the CPPE in Abobo, 125 at the Port-Bouët 2 center in Yopougon, and 162 at the Aliodan preschool in Marcory.

Dr. Marc Aguirre, the Country Director of HOPE worldwide South Africa and global subject matter expert on Early Childhood Learning, spoke passionately about the organization's long-standing commitment to Côte d'Ivoire. "Our work here is about more than just providing basic needs; it's about laying the foundation for a better future for these children and their families," he said. The project focuses not only on immediate assistance but also on sustainable change through the training of local educators who are essential to shaping the next generation.

In a further show of support, HOPE worldwide’s delegation presented health equipment to both the Port-Bouët 2 center and the Community-Based Urban Health Training center. This contribution, part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of care, builds on a previous donation of 56 specialized wheelchairs, making it easier for children with disabilities to access educational resources and community support.

The work of HOPE worldwide exemplifies the power of collaboration between local governments, NGOs, and communities in creating lasting impact. Through the NDPE project, they are not only improving the lives of children but are also empowering families, offering hope for a brighter tomorrow.

As HOPE worldwide continues its mission in Côte d'Ivoire, we are reminded that investing in early childhood development is not just a short-term intervention, but an investment in the future of the entire nation. By fostering growth, early learning, and hope for the next generation, they are truly building a foundation for sustainable change.
