Hope Worldwide. Bringing Hope. Changing Lives.

Philippines Volunteer Corps

(December 16-December 30)

Ormoc City is a vibrant and resilient city located in the province of Leyte, in the Philippines. With a recent population of approximately 215,000 residents, Ormoc City is constantly growing and evolving. However, the city's journey hasn't been without its challenges. In November 2013, Ormoc City, along with many other areas in the Philippines, faced the devastating impact of Super Typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Typhoon Yolanda. The powerful typhoon ravaged the region, causing widespread destruction and claiming many lives. Despite the immense challenges, the people of Ormoc City showcased their resilience and spirit, banding together to help one another rebuild their homes and lives. Today, Ormoc City stands as a shining example of resilience and unity. It continues to grow and prosper, attracting visitors with its beautiful landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. While the scars of Typhoon Yolanda remain, the city's spirit and determination remain unbreakable.

The Center of HOPE-Ormoc previously organized the HVC in 2017, welcoming over 70 participants from different countries. In December 2024, HVC delegates will have an opportunity to contribute and serve through our five (5) core programs:

1. Health and Nutrition: Under this program, we will provide nutritious meals to severely underweight and stunted children in the top-ranked barangay in Ormoc City, where malnutrition rates among children aged 2-6 are high.

2. Education: This program focuses on mentoring and tutoring children, equipping them with basic computer literacy skills.

3. Child Protection: Through this program, we will conduct advocacy initiatives to promote the prevention of child abuse.

4. Family and Community Development Program: In this area, we will organize parenting classes. Additionally, we will extend our support to our current livelihood beneficiaries.

5. Disaster Risk Reduction: This is a standby program. We will be prepared to respond to possible disasters that may occur before and during the HOPEww Volunteer Corps.
