Fundraising tips from the best! Day 3: Geordan Bennie, Melbourne, Australia

HOPEww Volunteer Corps • December 20, 2018

"Use your talents, and start early!"

Geordan, a young student, has a been on Volunteer Corps every year for the past three years. He served in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and he is now on his way to New Zealand! He has raised a lot of the cost himself.
"Using your strengths always helps - I was able to put on a little home concert because I can play music. I know lots of people who can cook or bake; they make a killing selling food after church. Also, it is good to start early because it may take longer than anticipated - I planned to do my fundraising night in April/May for a December Volunteer Corps, but ended up doing it in July. I was still able to do it and raise the money, but if I had left it until October or something, I might have run out of time. And I got help from other people - my parents provided food at my fundraiser, I got a few people to help set up for free entry, and all the bandmates were willing to play for fun without getting paid or anything. - it definitely helps being part of the church.
I raised $1200 from my fundraising night but I also had some money left from the previous year's fundraiser.
I put in money here and there as well like birthday money or loose change which adds up to heaps over the year!"

On a recent visit to serve with HOPE worldwide Bolivia, I had the honor of meeting an incredible young man named Farid. Over the past 8 years, Farid has lived at Casa Esperanza, a boys home for abandoned children, and a longtime partner of HOPE ww Bolivia. For nearly a decade, HOPE ww has come alongside these vulnerable children with literacy, mentorship, and other support programs to help them graduate and find a job and community where they can thrive.
