Kenya is known for its hospitality and welcoming culture. It is also home to the Big Five – the Rhino, Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo, as well as a host of other beautiful and exotic wildlife. Kenya is rich in diverse cultures and offers a warm, dynamic and unique experience to its visitors.
Regardless of its wealth in natural resources, over 45.2% of Kenya’s population lives below the poverty line. Most impoverished families rely on agriculture as a key source of income. Recent droughts coupled with high unemployment rates have posed a great challenge in tackling poverty in Kenya among its neediest people. While primary education is free, most learning institutions lack proper infrastructure, and attaining quality education remains a challenge due to a high student to teacher ratio in public schools.

The HOPEww Volunteer Corps Kenya trip will include a scenic road trip to Embu County, which is one of the gateways to the iconic Mt. Kenya. While there, participants will serve at a school that hosts the Embu branch of the Nairobi Christian Church. Apart from being an academic center, the school is home to 20 orphans who solely depend on the school administration and well-wishers for the provision of all their needs. The church has been contributing in acts of service in the school through mentoring, providing food, and offering donations for students in need. Our goal is to renovate the school and add creative paintings to the classrooms and playground. We will also spend time with the children playing games, mentoring and bonding through arts, crafts and music.

During this program participants will also visit the Kenyatta National Hospital which is Kenya’s largest referral hospital. While there, you will have the opportunity to minister to children and patients who have had long hospital stays. You will have the opportunity to encourage and pray with them, play games, hold puppet shows and bond through arts and crafts with children in the hospital.

Participants will take part in a special cultural dinner and sampling of Nairobi’s and Embu’s artifacts and memoirs. You will also be nurtured spiritually as you spend time with the Nairobi Christian Church members in fellowship and daily devotionals.

We welcome you to come on board, giving your hands to serve and your hearts to love! Always remember, serving God is the greatest adventure in the world!

1st Corinthians 13:13 - Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
