What?

Step into the heart of the Papua New Guinea Highlands region and Simbu Province. Simbu is the most rugged and mountainous part of the country, with deep, narrow valleys and fast-flowing rivers. You will be serving in the remote District of Gumine, at the HOPEww rural Kalewere aid post by doing some construction work, running a vacation Bible school with the Kalewere primary school students, teaching parenting classes, and of course reaching out to the villagers—all of that while spending not only your Christmas but two weeks breathing fresh air, free of noise pollution, eating fresh fruit, sweet fellowship with the disciples and villagers, and sleeping under God’s given lights to mankind: the moon and the stars. We will conduct a medical clinic, so medical professionals (doctors and nurses) would be very helpful.

Why?

Due to its remoteness and the rugged terrain, basic health-care services are non-existent in Simbu district, and the opportunity to access a proper school to learn is lacking in Kalewere.

An upgrade of the traditional aid-post building will provide a decent and clean environment for administering primary health care to the sick population. Mothers will be able to deliver babies in a proper labor unit. It takes a day’s walk to reach the nearest health center. Without an operational aid post, primary care for curable diseases is non-existent. That often results in patients succumbing to those illnesses when walking for hours to reach the nearest health center. Currently, heavily pregnant women or those in labor have to walk for hours to get to the nearest health center. Most mothers resort to home deliveries with no professional health-care assistance. For these communities, accessing primary health-care treatment conveniently is extremely critical.
