I am a first-year Ph.D. student in computing and information science with a focus on human-computer interaction and accessibility at Rochester Institute of Technology, USA.
I am originally from India, and that is where I got the opportunity to be a part of the HOPE Youth Corps, 2013 in Chennai, and the HOPEww Volunteer Corps, 2018 in Bangalore. Living in India, it was not easy to overlook or ignore the materially poor because there are so many people in need. I thought I was doing my best by giving people in need or people with disabilities some of the money I had on me while walking by, but I wanted to do more. At HYC and HVC, I was able to serve and connect with people, and that changed my life. It got me to pursue my studies in accessibility and to become a GSI.
