Hope Worldwide. Bringing Hope. Changing Lives.

Seattle HYC

Seattle, located in the Pacific Northwest, is known for many beautiful landmarks and attractions like Pike Place Market, the first Starbucks coffee shop, and Mt. Rainier. It has a vibrant art and music culture, and is home to many popular Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Costco, and Starbucks. It is also known as the technology capital of the world.

Despite its amazing attractions and booming economic opportunities, Seattle has the fifth-largest homeless population in the United States. Scattered throughout the city are many homeless-encampments, also known as tent cities, with more than 10k individuals living on the streets. Of those living homeless lives, 35% suffer with mental illness. HYC Seattle will provide an opportunity to serve this population and to truly see them as our neighbor.

During your time here in Seattle, we will serve the homeless population in various ways: We will partner with several organizations that are passionate in their concern for the story of each person (on the streets), and provides programs and assistance in helping these men and women get back on their feet. We will spend a week with Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission to be a part of their “Serve Seattle” program which creates opportunities to end sex-trafficking, help mental health illness, and drug and alcohol treatment. We will also spend a few days working with the Low Income Housing Institute and Habitat for Humanity Seattle to build a “tiny home” that will be donated to a homelessness encampment. The Seattle Church of Christ will also provide a ministry and mission workshop to train students to serve as the next generation of spiritual leaders in our churches. Come to Seattle next summer and help us meet the need of the homeless and be trained to be a spiritual leader.
