Recovery Is Still Unfolding in Jamaica
A Hurricane Melissa Relief Update
Months after Hurricane Melissa made landfall in late 2025, families in Jamaica are still rebuilding homes and restoring their lives.
In February 2026, leaders from HOPE worldwide in the U.S. and Canada traveled to Jamaica to advance ongoing recovery efforts alongside partners in the region including the Kingston Church of Christ and the Caribbean Mission Society.
During the visit, we shared hot meals in communities that are still without consistent electricity or running water. Through a partnership with Mother’s Food Group, more than 1,000 meals were prepared and distributed to a local school and the surrounding community.
Following up on previous work we had done in Jamaica, we reconnected with families who had received water filters from HOPEww. We also saw firsthand the impact of the roof repairs that were made possible through HOPEww funding months earlier.
In total we received generous donations totalling over $143,000, enabling us to distribute vital relief across the island, serving the Black River, Montego Bay, Santa Cruz, and Westmoreland communities. 254 volunteers have served over 2,520 hours, distributing essential equipment, gasoline, groceries, hot meals, potable water, Starlink services, and more because of your generous donations!
Our continuing plans include rebuilding homes and offering family financial assistance and mentorship programs to those affected by the hurricane. We remain dedicated to walking alongside communities across the Caribbean, creating opportunities to inspire greater hope.
