Funds will be used to bring relief to the vulnerable communities

affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

Caterpillar Foundation has partnered with HOPE worldwide again in bringing relief to the vulnerable communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia with a $200,000 grant. Last year Caterpillar Foundation gave a $207,000 grant that was critical in providing aid at the early stages of the pandemic.

The Delta variant is causing the second wave in this Southeast Asia nation that has seen 4.1 million cases and 134,356 deaths. The health care system has been put to the test as the government recommended home-based care for unaccommodated patients while oxygen supplies are scarce.

Through this generous donation of $200,000 from the Caterpillar Foundation, we are providing 75 oxygen concentrators and 600 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies for operating the devices. Community Health Clinics (Puskesmas) are the frontline health facilities in Indonesia, and this help is a tremendous support in saving lives.

“We are extremely grateful for the generous donations and partnership with Caterpillar Foundation. It’s support like this that will allow us to meet the needs of the local community and inspire greater hope,” says Dave Malutinok, President of HOPE
worldwide.

In 2020 Caterpillar Foundation and HOPE worldwide provided PPE, nutrition support, and health education in the early spread of COVID-19, and we are committed to continuing to provide support for such a time.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and act with urgency,” said the Caterpillar Foundation’s Asha Varghese. “Through partnering with relief organizations, we are helping fight the spread of COVID-19 and give frontline workers resources to act quickly and save lives.”

The pandemic continues to have a global impact on people around the world, and HOPE worldwide will continue to respond by supporting and partnering with great organizations like Caterpillar Foundation to help communities in need. Our hopes are high as the people of Indonesia are resilient in this fight and will come out victorious. HOPE worldwide and the Caterpillar Foundation will continue to work together to inspire great hope in our world.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and brother, Dave Tomlinson. Dave was a beloved part of the HOPE worldwide family who served in many capacities throughout his time with us, most recently as Chief Operating Officer before his retirement. He also played an important role in our Global Disaster Response and Community Service Brigades teams, serving alongside his wife, Angela. More than the roles he held, Dave was a cherished friend whose warmth, kindness, and genuine spirit touched so many people. His care for others was evident in the way he served, led, and built relationships with people around the world. Dave had a remarkable ability to encourage, uplift, and connect with people, reflecting God's love in both his leadership and his friendships. We will miss Dave deeply and are grateful for the many ways he gave of himself to HOPE worldwide and to the amazing people we get to serve. We’re holding Angela and their family close in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Dave’s presence will be deeply missed, but his faith, love, and example will remain in our hearts forever and his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
