UPDATE 9.20

A month ago Haiti was hit by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake on Saturday, Aug. 14th that caused massive destruction and took many lives. HOPE worldwide has been active in supporting and loving our brothers and sisters in need. With the support of our partners HOPEww Haiti, the Caribbean Mission Society and other Haiti supporters we’ve been able to provide critical food and medicine to families.

In addition to the essential supplies provided, HOPEww and its partners are working to rebuild 10 homes that have been destroyed and provide extensive repairs to 11 additional homes and a partner orphanage that have been badly damaged.

We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of prayers, support and donations. Thank you for showing love to people in need.
Together we can inspire greater hope.

UPDATE 8.20

Haiti was hit by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake on Saturday, Aug 14. Over 1,400 people were killed and several thousand injured. At least 30,000 homes have been destroyed or badly damaged. HOPEww has been in constant communication with our partners in Haiti and has been working to provide support during this time of devastation.

We received the following update from HOPEww Haiti on two of their local church partners:

  • Les Irois Church of Christ & Les Cayes Church of Christ members were all unharmed but several have lost family members in their community.
  • The Les Irois Church of Christ building was directly affected by the earthquake.
  • Of the 51 members in the Les Cayes Church of Christ, 40 of them have immediate shelter, food and water needs.

HOPEww is sending immediate food and water aid and is working with HOPEww Haiti on assessing the needs and developing a long-term recovery plan which will include economic empowerment and capacity building that will lessen the impacts of future disasters. Thank you to all who have been praying for Haiti and supported HOPEww with donations. If you would like to help support our disaster response efforts, click below to donate.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and brother, Dave Tomlinson. Dave was a beloved part of the HOPE worldwide family who served in many capacities throughout his time with us, most recently as Chief Operating Officer before his retirement. He also played an important role in our Global Disaster Response and Community Service Brigades teams, serving alongside his wife, Angela. More than the roles he held, Dave was a cherished friend whose warmth, kindness, and genuine spirit touched so many people. His care for others was evident in the way he served, led, and built relationships with people around the world. Dave had a remarkable ability to encourage, uplift, and connect with people, reflecting God's love in both his leadership and his friendships. We will miss Dave deeply and are grateful for the many ways he gave of himself to HOPE worldwide and to the amazing people we get to serve. We’re holding Angela and their family close in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Dave’s presence will be deeply missed, but his faith, love, and example will remain in our hearts forever and his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
