HYC Jakarta: Baptisms! - Zann and Samuel

Exactly one week after HYC Jakarta, two of our participants made the decision to become disciples and get baptized! Zann and Samuel are both 15 and from the Singapore teen ministry. We are all so proud of them and how much they have grown to reach this point. They were each impacted differently on the HYC and have shared with us what their key learning point was.

Zann:

"Before HYC, I was always self focused and very insecure about what others thought of me. Therefore, during the first two days of the HYC, I was struggling to connect with the other disciples and be happy around them. This upset me. However on the second night, we had a d-group and I shared about my insecurities and what held me back to give my best in serving others. Thankfully, my group encouraged me and shared with me some verses which I found very useful. I also prayed to God about it. From the next day onwards, I challenged myself to stay out of my comfort zone and get to know each and every one there individually. People responded well and I continued with a whole different mindset-serve to please God instead of men. I was able to grow to have a deeper conviction in God too and just being surrounded by so many spiritual and outgoing disciples who genuinely cared about me really helped me through this wonderful HYC journey."

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and brother, Dave Tomlinson. Dave was a beloved part of the HOPE worldwide family who served in many capacities throughout his time with us, most recently as Chief Operating Officer before his retirement. He also played an important role in our Global Disaster Response and Community Service Brigades teams, serving alongside his wife, Angela. More than the roles he held, Dave was a cherished friend whose warmth, kindness, and genuine spirit touched so many people. His care for others was evident in the way he served, led, and built relationships with people around the world. Dave had a remarkable ability to encourage, uplift, and connect with people, reflecting God's love in both his leadership and his friendships. We will miss Dave deeply and are grateful for the many ways he gave of himself to HOPE worldwide and to the amazing people we get to serve. We’re holding Angela and their family close in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Dave’s presence will be deeply missed, but his faith, love, and example will remain in our hearts forever and his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
